Triosyn® resin is a unique iodine preparation that
harnesses the germicidal power of iodine. At the same time, Triosyn® resin is
designed to precisely control the delivery and dosage of free molecular iodine
to harmful microorganisms, which minimizes any toxic effects to humans and the
environment.
Extensive laboratory testing demonstrates that Triosyn® resin quickly and
effectively inactivates a broad spectrum of microorganisms on contact.
Triosyn® resin is an extremely versatile antimicrobial agent with applications
in drinking water disinfection, paints and coatings, air filtration products,
and medical devices, just to name a few. The Triosyn® resin family of products
includes Triosyn® T50 (EPA Reg. 72897-1) and Triosyn® T50 Powder (EPA Reg.
72897-2).
How does Triosyn work?
Triosyn® resin is produced by thermally fusing pure iodine crystals under high
pressure with a specialized polymer. During this process, a stable
electrochemical bond is formed between the iodine and the polymer, allowing no
free release of iodine in the media employed. This electrochemical bond serves
as a demand-release mechanism that allows iodine molecules to be released from
Triosyn® resin in the presence of demand-causing microorganisms and in amounts
required to eliminate the source of the demand. Triosyn® is activated by the
strong ionic charge of surface proteins that cover microorganisms and then
interacts with organisms through ionic transfer. Upon contact with a
microorganism, ionic molecular iodine is transferred from Triosyn® resin, to the
more strongly charged surface proteins of the microbe. The iodine immediately
devitalizes the microorganism by removing electrons from the organism's surface
proteins which are necessary for life and reproduction.
How is Triosyn resin incorporated into products?
Triosyn® resin is incorporated into materials and products during proprietary
manufacturing processes. The process, unique for each product, ensures
continuous protection throughout the useful life of the product. For specific
information about how to incorporate Triosyn® resin into a particular material
or product, please consult with Triosyn Corp
ANTIMICROBIAL EFFICIACY & SAFETY
How do I know if Triosyn is working effectively?
All Triosyn® labeled products are rigorously tested by laboratories and are
required to meet established efficacy standards before they can carry the
Triosyn® name. Moreover, Triosyn® resin is engineered to be effective for the
lifetime of the product when used and maintained as directed. Therefore, you can
be assured of the effectiveness and durability of all Triosyn® products.
To illustrate the antimicrobial efficacy of Triosyn® resin, two textile samples
were placed in a petri dish containing a common bacteria. The samples were
tested under the same conditions using industry standard testing methods. The
textile sample in the photograph on the left was treated with Triosyn® resin;
the sample on the right was untreated. An absence of bacteria on and around the
treated textile sample demonstrates the effectiveness of Triosyn® resin
protection. The large "ring of inhibition" around the textile sample where no
bacteria are present is indicative of the antimicrobial power of Triosyn® resin.

Triosyn® resin for non-public health applications.
How do I know that Triosyn is safe?
The active ingredient in Triosyn® resin-iodine-is a naturally occurring element
that is an essential nutrient. Iodine is naturally present in many foods,
particularly those of marine origin, and is even added to food such as table
salt. In addition, iodine has a long history of use in a variety of products,
including disinfectants for cleaning surfaces, medicine, and skin soaps. With
respect to Triosyn® resin, the patented demand-release mechanism limits the
release of free iodine, thereby minimizing any exposure to humans and the
environment. Both Triosyn® T50 and Triosyn® T50 Powder are registered with the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Before issuing a product
registration, EPA requires and reviews extensive test data that demonstrate the
product can be used without posing harm to human health and the environment.
Most importantly though, Triosyn Corp. establishes exacting safety and
performance standards for all of its products.
ANTIMICROBIAL ADVANTAGE
How is Triosyn different from other
antimicrobial compounds?
The unique demand-release mechanism and versatility of Triosyn® resin set it
apart from other antimicrobial compounds. Most antimicrobial compounds release
the active ingredient at a fixed and continuous rate, regardless of the number
of microorganisms present, until the active ingredient is depleted. However, the
demand-release mechanism of Triosyn® resin works to provide the right level of
protection against microorganisms when protection is needed most. When
microorganisms come into contact with Triosyn® resin, a demand phenomenon is
created; in response to this demand, iodine is released from Triosyn® resin in
the amount necessary to inactivate the microorganisms causing the demand. That
is, the rate at which iodine is released from Triosyn® resin is determined by
the microbial challenge at hand.
Unlike most other antimicrobial compounds, the demand-release mechanism of
Triosyn® resin means there does not have to be a tradeoff between safety and
efficacy.
In addition, the versatility of Triosyn® resin distinguishes it from other
antimicrobial compounds. Triosyn® resin is equally effective in a wide variety
of applications. For instance, Triosyn Corp. has developed a diversified
portfolio of products in several areas, including air filtration (such as
facemasks), paints and coatings, dermatological treatments, barrier textiles,
protective clothing, and the purification of fluids
